John Bosco Nizeimana, PhD

Expert in East and Southern Africa with a focus on critical minerals, security, governance,
agriculture and food security, as well as refugees and migration.

John Bosco Nizeimana, Ph.D. is a Senior Research Analyst and Assistant Director of the Leadership and Governance Policy Lab at the Africa Center for Strategy and Policy in Washington, D.C. He also serves as an Associate Researcher at the Africa Centre for the Study of the United States at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Dr. Nizeimana’s research spans security, governance, critical minerals, economic development, food security, migration, and refugee issues across Africa. His regional expertise includes the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zimbabwe, Mali, Sudan (Darfur), Libya, the East Africa Community (EAC), and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). He is a country expert for the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) project at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, a United Nations-supported initiative. He holds a Ph.D. in Political and International Studies from Rhodes University and has previously served as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe. He was also a visiting researcher with the Africa Program at Georgetown University, further enriching his global perspective on African affairs.
